Funny engineering manager shirts and gifts

For the team lead who unblocks everyone else's pull requests and opens none of their own.

01 The lines

What they say at work.

Every piece is made to order. The images are mockups, and each one is labeled.

DO NOT MERGE. tee, $44
The label that saved the release. Printed on the back, where the team can read it.
PLEASE REBASE. tee, $44
Said politely, then less politely, then printed on a shirt.
AWAITING REVIEW. hoodie, $79
For the lead whose own pull request has been waiting since Tuesday.
mug, $30
The approval they give in standups. Read the back before you trust it.

02 The job

Why these lines.

Engineering managers and team leads say a lot of statuses without writing much code. Do not merge before the release. Please rebase onto main. Still awaiting review from the platform team. Their job is keeping work moving between people, and most of that happens in the comments on someone else's pull request.

The jokes come from the calendar. A two-line change that waited six days for one approval. The branch that is 214 commits behind main. The release that went out on time because someone added a do-not-merge label to the one change that would have broken it.

These lines suit a lead's wardrobe. They also work as a team order: one line for the whole team, any mix of sizes, no minimum.

The words, in plain English: Do not merge, Rebase / please rebase, Awaiting review, LGTM.

03 As a gift

Buying one for them.

Buying for a manager or team lead? The mug is the easy pick: no size, and it sits on the desk during every one-on-one. If the gift is from the whole team, consider ordering the same line for everyone instead. There's no minimum, sizes can be mixed, and each person can pay for their own. The emoji pack is a good add-on for the team workspace, because the lead is the one who'll use DO NOT MERGE most.

More by budget in the gift guide for programmers, and sizes, shipping and returns on the help page.

04 Someone else

Other jobs, other lines.

Buying for a whole team? Pick one line, any mix of sizes, no minimum. Team shirts.
